Trip Itinerary.
The Journey North & Sunset Arrival
Your adventure begins at 6:30 AM sharp. We’ll pick you up from your Nairobi home or hotel while the city is still quiet. Heading north, we’ll drive through the lush, green coffee and tea highlands, crossing the Equator at Nanyuki—where we’ll stop for a quick photo opportunity.
As we descend into the semi-arid plains, the air gets warmer and the landscape turns a beautiful golden hue. You’ll arrive at your lodge in time for a late lunch and a quick refresh before heading out on your first late-afternoon game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants heading to the river for a drink before dusk.
Tracking the "Special Five"
Today is all about discovery. Samburu is home to five rare species you won't find in the southern parks: the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, and the long-necked Gerenuk. We’ll spend the morning tracking these "Special Five" through the acacia trees and scrubland. After a relaxing midday break back at camp (the perfect time for a swim), we’ll head back out in the evening. This is prime time to look for the Mara’s elusive leopards, who love to lounge in the large trees bordering the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Cultural Immersion & Buffalo Springs
After a sunrise game drive and a hearty breakfast, we’ll take a break from the vehicle to visit a local Samburu Village. You’ll get to meet the community, learn about their ancient traditions, and see their vibrant beadwork firsthand—it’s a powerful experience that adds a whole new layer to your safari. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the neighboring Buffalo Springs National Reserve, separated only by the river. It’s a slightly different terrain with clear natural springs that attract a wide variety of birdlife and thirsty predators.
Sunrise Farewell & Return to Nairobi
We’ll make the most of your final morning with one last sunrise game drive. The light at this hour is perfect for photography, and the predators are often still on the move before the heat kicks in. After a final bush breakfast, we’ll begin our journey back to Nairobi. We’ll stop for a relaxed lunch along the way, arriving back in the city by late afternoon. You’ll return home with a camera full of photos and a soul full of the quiet, raw energy of the north.
